Program Calendar

Over the course of 10 months, participants will convene for one virtual orientation session and four week-long, in-person sessions held in various locations across the United States.

The exact dates and locations will be confirmed and shared with participants who are admitted to the program.

The Management Institute curriculum primarily focuses on strengthening management skills while providing comprehensive leadership development training. Training topics include but are not limited to:

  • Effective project management
  • Data management and data-driven decision making
  • Managing people and the art of supervision
  • Leadership vs. management
  • Fiscal management
  • Communications and crisis management
  • Managing political dynamics

Each training module will be delivered by experts and field leaders. In addition to practical, hands-on classroom instruction and workshop learning, the program will include site visits guided by NICJR local partners, providing participants with real-world insights and experiences that will deepen their understanding and application of violence reduction strategies.

The Institute will also feature a mentorship component, with participants engaging in one-on-one sessions with leaders in the field to discuss career development goals.

Additionally, the Institute will maintain a placement pipeline to match graduates with open violence reduction leadership positions throughout the US.

Application requirements:

1. To be eligible to apply, you must be a mid-career professional with six or more years of experience working in the public and/or nonprofit sectors of the violence reduction field. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who have been impacted by violence and/or the justice system.
2. Resume with contact information (name, email, current location)
3. Personal statement essay: Why are you an ideal candidate for the program? (Maximum length: 1,500 words)
4. Two letters of recommendation. Letters must be submitted to VRMI@nicjr.org by the recommenders. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure letters are submitted before the application deadline.
